In the 28th episode of the "All Day Research" podcast, we welcome Prof. Dr. Patricia Arias Cabarcos. Together with our host Marvin Beckmann, she talks about the types of authentications in IT security.
Prof. Dr. Arias Cabarcos has been a professor at the Department of Computer Science at Paderborn University since October 2021, where she conducts research in the field of IT security. She is trying to redefine the focus in the development of new security technologies: "We want to design, build and develop security technologies that take the users into account. This means that we look at how humans behave when dealing with security technologies and then we adapt the tool or software, which we develop, to the human behavior and not the other way around," explains Prof. Dr. Arias Cabarcos.
Another focus of her research is in authentication. In addition to the usual types of authentications, she is testing and developing new possibilities from the field of "Brainwave". "Brain computer interfaces, which allow you to read brain signals and interact with computers, are becoming more and more popular," says Prof. Dr. Arias Cabarcos. Prof. Dr. Arias Cabarcos explains in detail in the interview what potential this type of authentication offers and what difficulties may arise in establishing it.
