The Dean's Office

The Dean's Office heads the Faculty and is responsible for all cross-faculty tasks, such as the coordination of research and teaching, and the administration of the Faculty. It prepares and implements the resolutions of the Faculty Board. It is also the contact for the Presidential Board and the university committees. Within the framework of the budget, it decides on the utilisation of the faculty budget.

The Dean's Office consists of the Dean, the Vice-Deans for the individual subject areas as well as the Dean of Research and the Dean of Studies. The Vice-Deans are also the heads of the respective institutes.

The Faculty Board

Alongside the Dean's Office, the Faculty Board is the Faculty's most important decision-making body. Its tasks include advising and, if necessary, deciding on the use of the Faculty's resources such as funds and materials, personnel, rooms, etc. In particular, it also decides on fundamental questions of research and teaching within the faculty. This includes the institution or discontinuation/closure of degree programmes as well as decisions on the content of study and examination regulations.

The Faculty Board is made up of elected members from the group of university lecturers, the group of academic staff, the group of technical and administrative staff and the group of students.

Suggestions for improvement and complaints

Despite all efforts, not everything always runs perfectly in an institution as large as the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics.

If there is ever a reason for complaint and this cannot be resolved directly, please contact the Managing Director Dr Markus Holt eim-geschaftsfuehrer(at)lists.upb(dot)de.

The faculty student councils

Student councils are institutional student self-governments. They are made up of all students at an institute. Colloquially, the term "Fachschaft" is used for the elected representation (Fachschaftsrat).

The two related departments of Mathematics and Computer Science joined together many years ago to form a joint student council - and have continued to do so since the founding of the faculty and the institutes.
