The Institute of Mathematics at Paderborn University is inviting sixth form students in years 10 to 13 to the "PB^Math 2025" summer school. For the fourth time, interested students from Paderborn and the neighbouring districts can spend three days exploring the diverse world of university mathematics at different levels and with different focuses. Through workshops, lectures and personal discussions with students and academics, participants can gain their first experience of exciting concepts in university mathematics at a low threshold. The free event will take place from 2 to 4 July at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum. The registration deadline is 2 May. Rooms are available for participants at the Paderborn Youth Hostel. Further information and the link to registration can be found on the event page.
"The summer school is a great way for young people to deepen their interest in maths and experience how close fascinating examples of scientifically relevant mathematical structures can be to typical questions from school lessons. We look forward to working intensively with the pupils on exciting projects. One project, for example, is about exploring the connection between clock times, the structure of popular card games and current scientific research," says organiser Dr Max Hoffmann from the Institute of Mathematics at Paderborn University.
"PB^Math 2025" is being organised in cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum and the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 358 "Integer Structures in Geometry and Representation Theory" at Paderborn University and Bielefeld University.
