Prof. Dr. Peter Bender receives the Weierstraß-Prize 2004 for his excellent lecturing during winter semester 2003/04 for his lectures “Elemente der Geometrie “, “Grundkurs Mathematik II” and “Arithmetik und Zahlentheorie und Elemente der Geometrie” during summer semester 2004.

The lectures accompanied by tutorials are aimed at students studying to be a teacher, with different qualifications and interests. With his lectures, Mr Bender managed to achieve the impossible: He was able to fittingly address all participants and encouraged all to an intensive collaboration.

In the framework of the student´s course reviews, the students highlighted the thoroughly preparation, the encouraging presentation, as well as the high quality of his lectures and the striking learning success.

During summer 2004 the students have emphatically campaigned for Mr Bender's to remain a lecturer and doesn't follow the call for a different university. We are happy that the faculty was able to convince him to stay.

Dr. Alexander May is an academic staff member in the research group of Professor Blömer at the Department of Computer Science. He receives the Weierstraß-Prize 2004 for his excellent achievements in mentoring tutorials and lectures. Those were “Kryptography I und II” during winter semester 2003/04 and “Datenstrukturen und Algorithmen” during summer semester 2004.

• Alex May is a great tutor, without him I would fail.
• Alex May deserves the prize! He is the best group instructor of all tutorials I have visited the past 9 months. Especially because, within 5 minutes he could explain to me what I couldn´t understand during the whole mathematics seminar.
