In the latest edition of the renowned "Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" (GRAS), also known as the "Shanghai Subject Ranking", Paderborn University has once again achieved very good rankings. The results are based on five indicators that assess the performance of specific subject areas at institutions worldwide. This year, 5,000 universities from 96 countries and regions were compared, of which 1,900 were ranked in 55 different subject areas.
Mathematics: 1st place in Germany for "Research Impact"
The field of mathematics at Paderborn University is ranked between 7th and 11th nationally and is one of the 101 to 150 best-ranked universities worldwide. Particularly pleasing: Paderborn's maths department came first in Germany in the "Research Impact" category. The category is based on the so-called Citation Index (CNCI), which measures and compares the citation frequency of publications. Universities are only listed if they are at least among the top 500 worldwide in the respective subject area.
Educational sciences represented for the first time
Paderborn University's Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is ranked 7th to 10th in Germany and among the top 301 to 400 universities worldwide, while Paderborn's Educational Sciences are represented in the ranking for the first time and are ranked 15th to 20th nationally and 40th to 500th worldwide. Criteria such as the number of publications, citations, publications in top journals, international collaborations and individual research achievements of the academics at the respective institution were included in the evaluation and comparison of the departments.

Prof Dr Torsten Meier, Vice President for International Relations at Paderborn University, is delighted with the results: "The top positions in mathematics, the consistently high performance in electrical engineering and information technology and the inclusion of educational sciences in the ranking once again demonstrate the outstanding achievements of our academics and the international competitiveness of our departments."
